Kathmandu: The bodies of three Nepali students who lost their lives in a deadly attack by the Hamas terrorist group in southern Israel have been positively identified. These students were undergoing training in the region when the attack occurred.
According to the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, the bodies of the victims, identified as Padam Thapa, Prawesh Bhandari, and Rajan Fulara, were confirmed today. This identification brings the total number of Nepali students' bodies identified to eight, with efforts ongoing to identify the remaining two.
The Israeli government has informed the Nepali Embassy that they are diligently searching for the missing Nepali student, Bipin Joshi, utilizing all available resources and mechanisms, as stated in a press release issued by the Embassy.
Out of the four Nepali students who sustained injuries during the Hamas attack, two have been discharged from the hospital. One of the discharged students has returned to Nepal, while the other remains under the supervision of the Nepali Embassy. The two remaining injured students are currently receiving medical treatment in Israel.
On a global scale, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is on an official visit to Nepal, has strongly called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages in Gaza. In a social media post, he emphasized, "From Nepal, I will continue to insist for immediate and unconditional release of hostages in Gaza. There is no justification, ever, for killing, injuring, and abducting civilians."
There are concerns surrounding the suspected hostage situation of Bipin Joshi, who has not made contact since the terrorist attack by the Hamas militant group. Tragically, approximately ten Nepali students lost their lives in the attack, which took place on October 7, when the terrorist group launched a devastating assault on Israel.
